Not another infinity cube!!
thingiverse
This model was inspired by a print I made of the awesome Pangolin created by amaochan. My printer impressed me with its ability to handle the tight tolerances involved in that model. I started with a two-cube prototype featuring an in-print hinge assembly. That's when I discovered a similar design by austinvojta on Thingiverse. He approached his design in exactly the same way as I did - matching the radii of the cube edges to the swing of the hinge. This not only creates an awesome mechanism, but it also has a pleasant aesthetic feel in the hand. The two-cube version is perfect if you want to test the hinge mechanism without wasting too much time - it only takes an hour to print. You can download the prototype from Thingiverse. Regarding specifics: the cubes are 0.3mm apart, and the hinges are also 0.3mm away from the cubes while "floating" in their allocated spaces. This model should be printed without support, but note that some fusing will occur during printing. For information on how to free up the cube after printing, see Post-Printing instructions.
