Opera: A Painting Called "Our Lady of Good Counsel with the Patron" Located in the Church of St. Andrew Apostle in Savona (SV) Artist: Defendente Ferrari (1485 - 1540) From Piedmont, Ferrari trained in Giovanni Martino Spanzotti's workshop and achieved significant success as a painter of polychromes and sacred panels, winning over a wide range of church patrons in the region with his richly decorated style featuring smalted colors. His works are scarce in Liguria, but perhaps he was commissioned by a patron living in Savona. Description: Created between 1500 and 1531, this painting features the Virgin Mary, crowned and holding her child, surrounded by angels and an image of the patron. It is likely that this panel served as the central piece of a now-dispersed polyptych, originally housed in the Church of St. Augustine.
