Jorg Immendorff, born in 1945, the pivotal year of World War II's conclusion, in Northern Germany, stands out as one of the most influential and provocative contemporary German artists. Immendorff's works consistently convey a powerful socio-historical message. A biography tracing the life and career of an artist who has spent his lifetime championing anti-establishment views is the focus of this book. In addition to numerous other accolades, Immendorff was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz, Germany's most prestigious honor bestowed by its government. He also received the prestigious Premio Marco from the Museum of Modern Art in Monterrey, Mexico. Following his invitation to participate in documenta 5 by Harald Szeemann in 1972, Immendorff continues to celebrate triumphant successes: His work is currently on display at The Triumph of Painting exhibition at the SAATCHI COLLECTION in London; a solo exhibition with him is being prepared at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. The sculpture Nose clearly illustrates Immendorff's connection to China, an "old flame" that has earned him international recognition. As a young man, Maoist and constantly influenced by Beuys' direct democracy concept, Immendorff traveled to China in the 1980s to meet emerging artists at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and provide support. Since then, he and Fang Lijun, China's most important figurative painter, have been close friends.
