The Northrop F-5-G Tiger led to the development of the F-20-A Tigershark, featuring a larger single engine and enhanced performance compared to earlier F-5 Tigers. Initially developed by private investors to sell advanced lightweight fighters to overseas allies without risking sensitive avionics falling into Soviet hands, the Northrop F-20 project was cancelled in 1986 after limited success. Some were purchased by the US Air Force and National Guard units.
