The Northrop F-5G Tiger initiated a development program leading to the F-20A Tigershark, boasting enhanced performance from its larger single engine. Initially developed by private investors for export without compromising advanced avionics of more sophisticated fighters like F-15 and F-16, the project was cancelled in 1986 after limited success. Some were purchased by the US Air Force and National Guard units.
