The model is almost life-sized, textured, and has animatable parts such as ailerons, flaps, rudder, elevators, landing gear, and doors. It features a detailed cockpit accessible through class. The model carries missiles and rockets, and comes in various formats. Originally developed as the Northrop F-5-G Tiger, it led to the creation of the F-20-A Tigershark with enhanced performance due to a larger single engine. This fighter aircraft was initially designed for overseas allies by private investors to prevent exposing advanced avionics of F-15 and F-16 fighters to the Soviets. Although it saw some success, the project was cancelled in 1986; some were later purchased by the US Air Force and National Guard units.
