Perth's North Mole Barge stands out as one of the city's most easily accessible shore wrecks with significant historical importance. Dubbed the 'Gareenup Wreck,' despite being mislabeled, the wreck remains a mystery to this day. Initially intended for Rottnest Island's deep water graveyard, it fell drastically short and was initially sunk just 200 meters from its current location. In 1988, with the Fremantle port expansion underway and local divers flocking to explore it, the sunken barge was finally pulled out of the water and laid to rest a mere 180 meters north of the northern harbour sea wall.
