North Lordenshaw 6u (Feb 2006)

Outcrop on private farmland near Whitton Dean, south of Rothbury, Northumberland displays an extensive exposure carved by time. This particular outcrop is one of many nearby areas of exposed rock that share similar characteristics. In 2008, NADRAP documented this carving and added it to ERA, cross-referencing it with 'North Lordenshaw 6u' on the Beckensall Archive (BA). However, a close examination of photographs from both archives reveals a possibility that different stones may have been recorded. NADRAP notes: "A nondescript area of exposed rock features two small shallow cups. The larger cup displays a subtle hint of an arc on its northern edge. Three edges of the panel have been quarried along the southern to northwestern edges." Although their plan does not include the arc, a faint trace of one appears on this model. ERA and BA information can be accessed at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=1244. The model was created from five stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson of NADRAP Team 3 in February 2006. This imagery forms part of the complete NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England and Northumberland County Council.
