The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was a long-range single-seat fighter aircraft that played a significant role in World War II. Designed and built rapidly, it initially served as a fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft for the RAF before being utilized as a bomber escort during raids over Germany, contributing to Allied air superiority from 1944 onwards. The Mustang saw service not only in Europe but also had limited usage against Japan in the Pacific War. As the main fighter of United Nations forces at the outset of the Korean War, it later assumed a ground attack role due to the emergence of jet fighters. Despite this, it continued serving various air forces until the early 1980s.
