The Viking Age blade, also known as the Carolingian blade, dominated Western and Northern Europe during the Early Middle Ages. This type of sword evolved in the 8th century from the Merovingian blade, which itself was a development of the Frankish production of swords from the 6th to 7th century, derived directly from the Roman spatha. The Viking Age or Carolingian-era sword then gave rise to the knightly blade of the Romanesque period during the 11th to 12th century. Learn more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_sword.
