Noob Knob
pinshape
Our team requires approximately 100 knobs to accomplish a project. We discovered that acquiring the knobs locally was prohibitively expensive and limited in stock. Consequently, we chose to design them ourselves and print them. This endeavor marked my first attempt at creating threads. The knob measures 50mm with five arcs for finger grips. It accepts 1/4"-20 x .472 insert nuts. To produce these knobs, we utilized the Replicator with MakerWare. We selected ABS as our material, set the infill to 100%, and configured two shells with a layer height of .27mm. The extruder temperature was set at 230 degrees Celsius, while the platform temperature was maintained at 110 degrees Celsius. Once the knob is complete, simply screw in the insert nut. A built-in upper end stop allows for easy installation and provides a secure fit. If additional security is required, an epoxy can be used to prevent the nut from coming loose.
