Nonlinear Bending Analysis with Ansys
grabcad
Objective: Simulate plastic deformation in a bending test using ANSYS Workbench.Components:Beam: Aluminum 2023T3 alloy.Pusher & Supports: Structural steel.Nonlinearities:Material, geometrical, and contact non-linearities considered for realism.Material Properties:Aluminum Alloy: Modeled with multilinear isotropic hardening.Structural Steel: Stiffness increased for rigidity for supports and pusher.Geometry & Meshing:Beam segmented for structured meshing. Shell elements with 1mm thickness used.Contacts:Frictional contacts with coefficient of 0.1 defined between beam, pusher, and supports.Boundary Conditions:Fixed supports at the base.Displacement constraints mimic beam deformation and recovery.Analysis Settings:Two load steps simulate the bending test, accounting for geometrical non-linearity.Results:Deformation, strain, and reaction force monitored for insights.Solution Process:Initiate solution, ensuring force convergence for accurate results. It is found that the beam undergoes plastic deformation as it couldn't get back to it's original shape as shown by Displacement Over Time.
