Non-circular Gear

Non-circular Gear

Non-circular gear come in many shapes and forms, making them look like they're breaking the laws of motion altogether. You might think they wouldn't mesh at all, but somehow they manage to fit together perfectly, which is why I find them so fascinating. Here's an OpenSCAD script that generates involute gears from elliptic curves with ease. Additionally, it comes with STL files for a wide variety of gears that actually work well together. The great thing about this collection is that you can mix and match any two gears to create something entirely new. With the Customizer (Open in Customizer), you have the power to design your own unique set of non-circular gears with shapes that defy explanation.
