Human: Nomura, Japan - Spanwijdte 42 cm Title: A Glimpse of an Airplane Lockheed Electra L-188 KLM PH-DSF Manufacturer: Nomura Year: 1965 Object: Aircraft Material: Tin, Plastic Theme: Aviation Country: Japan Dimensions: 42 cm x 39.5 cm Details: The top is completely made of tin, the bottom is hard plastic. Large rubber tires, hard plastic nose wheels, cockpit and side windows are transparent plastic. The plane runs on two 1.5-volt batteries and in the 'on' position the propellers spin, it moves forward while the light in the cockpit and at the back of the cabin turns on. Japanese manufacturers often removed their trademarks at the request of importers because toys were sold by HEMA or abroad by Marks & Spencer and equipped with a custom sticker. The registration marks, in this case PH-DSF, were not consistently used by toy manufacturers for different models. * The year of production (1965) is an estimate based on analogous Lockheed Electra models from Japanese manufacturers.** The KLM was the only European carrier that flew the Lockheed Electra as a long-distance aircraft. Others were: American Airlines, Eastern Air Lines and Braniff Airways (nl.wikipedia.org). * Boot, Rob. Personal Message, CATAWIKI, 03062014. **Marchand, Frédéric. Avions-Jouets 1945-1970.
