No Touch Door Knob Opener
thingiverse
At long last, it's finally here! I tried to release it as soon as I finished printing it, but when I tested it, I noticed white stress marks around the handles after only a few uses. So, I strengthened it again and resized it slightly more, printed another one, and still had problems with stress on the handles. At that point, I removed all the files and drawings and literally went back to the drawing board for a complete redesign. And then I waited patiently until it was thoroughly tested and worked well. To make it even better, I bulked up the original design substantially and added side gussets to spread out the strain. This design is specifically made for standard 2-inch (50mm) internal door knobs. If you need this design to work on slightly larger knobs, like main doors, just scale it up in Cura or a slicer. I've included AutoCAD drawings with the file, and I invite those who have the ability to adapt it to suit their needs. Why did I do it? Well, quite frankly, many of us are working from home during this Corona Virus pandemic, and some people work inside all day. Of course, rubber or latex gloves are a solution for many, but some folks are allergic, while others find them uncomfortable and sweat profusely throughout the day, going through half a box in no time. And when this is all over, hopefully soon, treat yourself to a big, juicy lemon tree and squeeze away! As always, stay safe and have fun.
