I think I invented this when I was around 12 or so, many decades past. I had the idea of a scaffolding/structure system that an astronaut could assemble in microgravity without the need for any tools. Only simple hand movements. The tubes would be constructed and cut to whatever length needed in orbit, the pieces could be grown/printed, however some future tech would see, and largely speaking the structure would take on whatever shape was necessary. Minor angular changes and tube lengths could allow for all kinds of structural shapes needed, not just straight runs. With all the renewed interest in terrestrially orbiting stations, the moon, mars, ect - perhaps this design will find a use out there.
