No-pinch/Magnetic Lavalier Mic Clip

No-pinch/Magnetic Lavalier Mic Clip

thingiverse

A clip for a lavalier microphone that magnetically attaches to the inside of a shirt, eliminating the need for clipping onto fabric. This setup works exceptionally well with t-shirts where there's no convenient spot to attach a standard clip except near the mouth. Glue a small metal shim to the back (such as a washer; I used a spare collar stay) and then use a magnet on the inside of your shirt. Since there's minimal motion between the magnets and wires, signal distortion isn't a concern - I've recorded several videos with this setup and it performs flawlessly. I designed the part to fit my Giant Squid lav mic (a very common one), but the code is parametric, making it relatively easy to remix for other microphones. Printed on fine mode using PLA plastic. This object was created using Python, FreeCAD, and CadQuery. The design files are available here: https://github.com/swolebro/caddyshack. Here's a link to the code used specifically for these designs: https://github.com/swolebro/caddyshack/tree/24b28a8d0978d780481db9d49cc1bac0369f916d/scripts/misc. Be aware that there may have been updates, improvements, or reorganization since then, so it's best to check the latest revisions. Most of my designs are also available on Thingiverse, and some have accompanying videos which I'm assembling into a YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9xPdBFt5g3QmsrRzn3PynVNeJ7LHVtZS.
