No Man's Sky - Knowledge Stone

thingiverse

This is a very simplified model of a Knowledge Stone, an object found in the PS4/PC game, No Man's Sky. They're alien artifacts scattered across planets throughout the universe - and if you touch them, they light up and teach you a single alien word. Now you can have your own! -- And it's a simple puzzle box to boot! Print Settings Printer: FlashForge Finder Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 100 Micron Infill: Set INSIDE to 0% (hollow) to let light through if you're going to use any kind of light source. Use any infill you want with the remaining pieces. I recommend linear-infill because the compartmentalization helps stop light bleed -- of course, this depends on your filament color/perimeters. Notes: I had my slicer auto-generate some tree supports for the circular openings. I've oriented the things to the way I printed them on my printer. If you want to use this with a light, I recommend printing OUTSIDE and CENTER with an opaque material, and printing the INSIDE with a semi-transparent/transparent material. Post-Printing Assembly! I used this LED unit here because it's smaller than a tea light and much, much brighter. They can also be found in any craft store that has vase decorating / floral supplies. You can use anything that'll fit though, even rig your own! How I Designed This How!? I built it from scratch in Tinkercad using screenshots I took myself as reference, since I couldn't find the actual in-game 3D model anywhere online. As such, it's missing the fine details, such as the etchings and scratches. Sorry. Custom Section What do I do with this? *shrug* Anything you want. I'm not the boss of you. Here are some suggestions though: Find a way to make it weather-safe and use it as a geocache container. Hide your stash in it. (buttermints are my guilty pleasure) Throw them at people and scream "You've learned a new word for pain!" (don't actually do this) Turn it into an internet widget with some electronic wizardry! Have it pulse different colors for different notifications. (electronic wizardry not included) Use further electronic wizardry to have it shout a "word of the day" in a foreign language followed by its translation whenever you tap it. ("Schmerz!") Scale it up, like, way up, like huge, and put a lamp in it. Use it as a glowy nightstand. I'm lookin' at you Joel. Throw it in the trash like this game on Launch Day.
