No Man's Sky - Grave Marker USB Necklace

thingiverse

This is a very simplified model of a Grave Marker, an object found in the PS4/PC game No Man's Sky. Upon your death, the location is marked with this giant hovering diamond. At the center of that diamond is a sphere that contains your inventory. Now you can have your own! It's a necklace -- and the container core is a removable USB flash drive! Carry your stuff on you or just wear the empty grave. Do what you want. Assembly video further down this page. Print Settings Printer: FlashForge Finder Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 100 Micron Infill: 15% Notes: This Thing requires a lot more complicated parts than I had hoped, I apologize. Supports and rafting will be necessary, especially since we're using such small fiddly bits. Some basic cleanup will also be necessary, especially around the holes for the string. Post-Printing Assembly Video. Flash drive used: http://amzn.to/2bIxCiJ Non-3D Printed Things Needed! Outside of the parts you've printed here, you will need the following: String/twine/cord for the necklace. Superglue or some other appropriate adhesive. Compact/Low Profile flash drive. These are flash drives that are the same dimensions as the USB port itself. Just place the drive in and glue it in place with the two hemispheres. If you don't want to use glue, I did include specific mounting blocks for the SiliconPower "Jewel" flash drive, as that is the one I had on hand. I recommend this one as it's easiest to mount because of the openings in the metal. Found here: http://amzn.to/2bIxCiJ It does also work with a Patriot S-Mini flash drive, although you will have to remove the silicon body and use glue. Found here: http://amzn.to/2bQtPy2 How I Designed This How!? I used screenshots I took myself as reference to recreate the object in Tinkercad. Or, at least as best I could. It's quite complex with a lot of details ingame. So I simplified it. After I created the object, I brainstormed ways to disassemble and reassemble it. With a plan in mind, I started bisecting it and complicating it. Even though it may seem simpler than the Knowledge Stone, this was far more complicated to try to make "work". Took me several revisions before I was happy with the assembly and outcome. It utilizes more parts than I'd like, but it's the best I can do for now. I have a version in the works that isn't a necklace, just the object, and it will have minimal seamlines, and require you assemble the core around a red glass marble. For those of you who want a more accurate prop as opposed to fancy jewelry. This is hard work, guys. Gosh.
