To resolve my issue with a damaged glass clip, I discovered SUGRU - a heat-resistant, elastic silicone putty that hardens overnight. By applying it to the edges of my glass plate and heat bed, I created a smooth surface without obstructions. Since implementing this in May 2012, I've experienced no problems (as of April 2016), with my heat bed running at 100 degrees C. Although I have no affiliation with SUGRU, I highly recommend it as an effective solution. You can purchase SUGRU in the USA from their website and also consider placing a plumbing/soldering/torch mat between your plywood base and heating bed for added protection.
