Nixie tube soldering tool (Nixie IN-8-2 and IN-14)
thingiverse
The Nixie tube centering/straightening tool is an essential accessory for keeping tubes straight while soldering pins. It comes with a CAD model in Solidworks format, allowing users to customize the tool according to their needs. The CAD model is highly parameterized, making it easy to modify the diameter of the tool by adjusting the global variable "TubeDiam" in the sketch of the first revolve. This enables users to create tools for different Nixie tubes with varying diameters. For instance, the Nixie IN-8-2 tube has a diameter of approximately 18mm, but there can be some variation of +/- 0.2mm. To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to print multiple tools and use a 220 grit sandpaper to enlarge the inner diameter to fit the slightly larger tubes. With a little practice, users can easily get the diameter just right within a few minutes. The included pictures demonstrate the tool in action, showcasing its effectiveness in centering and straightening Nixie tubes. To make the process even smoother, a drill bit similar to the one shown can be used to create a precise hole at the bottom of the tube, allowing for easy alignment with the tool.
