Nissan Leaf: Side camera mount

thingiverse

Do you own a Nissan Leaf and wish you had the around view monitor that comes with the Tekna model? Well, you're in luck because I've created a precisely fitting mount to attach a standard car reversing camera to the mirrors on either side of the Leaf, giving you a great view of obstacles and curbs. Check out the photos! All this can be done without permanently modifying the car at all, making it perfect for those who lease their Leaf. If you don't have a 3D printer but would like one, please leave a comment below! **Print Settings** * Printer: Hobbyking Fabrikator * Rafts: No * Supports: Yes * Resolution: 0.2mm * Infill: 20% **Notes**: To give the mount extra strength in the clamp, print it with the side facing up. **Instructions** 1. First, you'll need a camera - I based my design on a common circular-based camera. You'll also need a screen if your kit didn't come with one, but I had one spare. I'm assuming you can connect this yourself. Below are some links to examples of the same type. * Camera (round): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291552705393 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231558568622 * Screen: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371230987620 2. Download the .STL file and print it with your 3D printer using 0.2mm layer height and 20% infill. I printed mine on a Hobbyking Fabrikator with Craftware 1.13 beta and natural PLA filament, and it turned out great. 3. Protect the Leaf's bodywork with some sticky tape before printing to avoid scratching it. 4. Once the print is finished, remove all support materials using pliers or a knife. Insert the camera's cable through the hole at the back of the mount and slide it into place - it should fit snugly. 5. Routing cables is described in the image descriptions below, but it wasn't difficult to do. If you have any problems with this setup, please leave a comment and I'll do my best to help. Enjoy your new around view monitor! Thanks for reading all this! Check out my other listing for the Nissan Leaf front camera mount and screen mount to complete this project. **Photo Description** The images below show the order in which I've described the process. 1-2) The image from the camera, showing the best camera position to see an overlapping field of view with the front (check out my other mount) and back cameras. This is great for positioning around curbs! 3-4) The camera mounted on the wing mirror, with the cable routed along natural creases in the bodywork into the car and then along the headliner to the passenger side and into the glovebox to connect to the screen. 5-12) The view outside the car with some reference markers. Look back at the first two images and spot the overlap between the front and back cameras, so it covers all sides of the car!
