Nissan Leaf EVSE 2011 transformer case

This is a custom-made casing designed to fit seamlessly inside a 2011 Nissan Leaf's Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). If you purchase a pre-owned Leaf from Japan, it likely comes equipped with an original Nissan LEAF EVSE, rated for an input voltage of 200VAC. However, if you reside in a country with 240 VAC mains power, this can create issues. The transformer that powers the control chips within the EVSE charging cable box will operate at 20% above its nominal rating. Prolonged operation under these conditions will inevitably lead to premature failure. To mitigate or rectify this problem, you can opt for replacing the transformer with one rated for 230VAC from a reputable supplier like RS Components: The RS PRO 6VA 2 Output Chassis Mounting Transformer, 18V ac. This unit produces an output of 18VAC instead of the original 19VAC, yet it functions flawlessly. The casing provided here perfectly accommodates the RS unit and serves as a straightforward drop-in replacement (albeit a snug fit) for the original one. It's essential to note that this solution is exclusive to the 2011 EVSE model. In later models, the transformer is encapsulated within the unit, making extraction challenging. Furthermore, it remains uncertain whether this RS transformer would be compatible with the EVSE in later models.
