Nissan Leaf ETC replacement options

If you've acquired a pre-owned Nissan Leaf sourced from Japan, you might notice a peculiar device under the steering wheel that resembles an old floppy disk drive. This unusual device is actually a card reader for an Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) designed to operate in Japan. Since this ETC system is useless outside of Japan, it's highly recommended that you unplug it to prevent unnecessary power drain on the 12-volt battery. To conceal the most common ETC unit, you can use a blank facia. Alternatively, if you've encountered a slightly different ETC model, another blank facia is available to cover it. Taking it one step further, I removed the entire ETC unit, which weighed in at 180 grams. This left an empty space, prompting me to design a 3D printable blank (15 grams) to fill the gap. While this approach might seem excessive, it's worth noting that this is just the beginning of my modifications. Next, I designed brackets to replace the ETC unit and relocate the OBD2 socket to a more user-friendly position. Design "d" accommodates an LELink OBD2 dongle, while design "e" is specifically tailored for the taller Konnwei 902 dongle. With these brackets in place, your LeafSpy dongle will be much easier to access and view. Design "f" presents a 50mm deep coin tray slot that can hold a few coins at most – but I wouldn't recommend it.
