“Niola Doa-like” motifs in the G.R. d'Archeï (2)
sketchfab
On the bottom wall of the Gran Riparo d'Archeï, a rounded shape stands out as an isolated figure. This painting matches the head or hairstyle of one of the most famous Niola Doa engravings - the third figure holding a stick at Site 2 in the Niola Doa. A white mark is also visible to the left; it could represent pendants hanging from the wrist of some Niola Doa figures. Remnants of white paint that might be shoulder and arm profiles of a vanished figure are visible in enhanced images. On the lower left of this rounded shape, two solid-red figures wearing skirts appear. Traces of dashed white decoration survive on the skirt of the first figure to the left. These painted figures are in the same posture as the engraved figure wearing skirts at Site 2 in Wadi Guirchi, 150 km northeast of the Gran Riparo d'Archeï.
