Dendy or Dandy is a game console built from scratch by Steepler at the end of 1992. Based on Nintendo's Japanese hardware design and cartridge format, it is essentially an unofficial clone of their iconic Famicom console - widely known as the Nintendo Entertainment System in US and European territories. Dendy is made entirely with Taiwanese components ordered by Steepler from Chinese suppliers. With no official presence in the post-Soviet space for NES, Dendy capitalized on this void to gain immense popularity among locals. Distributed predominantly in Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, its affordability played a significant role in securing widespread acceptance. In fact, Dendy's name became a byword for the original Nintendo console - a reputation bolstered further by compatible clones such as Kenga and Sjubor.
