Whomps, once commonly known as Slab Beasts,[1] make their first appearance in Super Mario 64 as rare enemies, with two appearing alongside the Whomp King in Whomp's Fortress and one emerging midway through Bowser in the Sky. A glitch enables Mario to pass through a Whomp and ride on its back if he jumps just as one is falling. When a Whomp is defeated, Mario receives five coins as a reward. Prior to their defeat, repeatedly jumping onto their backs yields an additional five coins, resulting in a total of ten coins.
