They burst into existence in Super Mario 64, later reappearing in its remake, Super Mario 64 DS. Like Goombas, they operate with reckless abandon; when within striking distance, they charge at Mario, only to be defeated by a solid punch or a well-placed stomp on their heads. Scuttlebugs inhabit the eerie Hazy Maze Cave and roam freely outside Big Boo's Haunt. The sole differences separating them from Goombas lie in their generosity - they yield three coins rather than one - and their ability to change patrol routes at will. In the remake, Scuttlebugs received a makeover, donning black and yellow stripes, a distinctive head, legs that match their body color, and bright red suction cup feet.
