sketchfab
The figurative gypsum wall panel depicts a human figure representing the minor deity Lamhu, standing proudly with his broad-bladed lance held firmly in hand as he guards the entrance to the gate. A robust beard frames his face, while large curls cascade down his back, and his feet are bare, clad only in a short kilt adorned with tassels that dance in the air. This majestic sculpture dates back to between 700 BC and 692 BC, discovered within the walls of Sennacherib's South West Palace, specifically in Court VI at Nineveh. Measuring an impressive height of 137.16 centimetres and a width of 167.74 centimetres, this ancient masterpiece commands attention and inspires awe with its intricate details and powerful presence.
