This versatile adapter makes it effortless to connect an internal battery directly into the external battery port of any Ninebot ES model scooter. As outlined in our comprehensive guide on the Ninebot Modular Battery Mount, the cylindrical internal batteries are significantly more affordable than their official pod-shaped counterparts despite offering identical capacity. They prove to be an attractive option for anyone seeking a budget-friendly external battery solution - modular or otherwise. Our initial experiments revealed that internal batteries couldn't be directly linked into the official external battery port; we thus opted to connect our modular external batteries in parallel with the internal one. While many observers noted this approach was somewhat hazardous due to the substantial voltage disparity between the two batteries, subsequent tests confirmed it's indeed feasible to link an internal battery through the external battery port. The official external battery port is connected to the internal battery via 2 N-channel MOSFETs, allowing the speed controller to regulate power flow from the external battery into the internal battery. However, the speed controller firmware only compensates for voltage differences when batteries are being charged. For a modular setup, it becomes essential to wire a charging plug (barrel connector) in parallel with the external battery's power leads and then connect it to the scooter's charging port whenever a new battery is inserted. The fresh external battery will gradually balance its voltage with the internal one, ensuring a safe and smooth transition.
