TURNING AN OLDER MICROSCOPE INTO A MORE ADVANCED ONE. WHILE ADDING A CUSTOM MADE SCANNING STAGE TO MY MICROSCOPE, I DECIDED TO MAKE SOME CHANGES TO ITS PARTS. IN THIS CASE, I FIXED THE "STAGE PLATE AND SPECIMEN CLIP". MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE FULL PROJECT CAN BE FOUND HERE: HTTPS://MEDIUM.COM/MICROGRAPH-STORIES/TURNING-AN-30-YEAR-OLD-MICROSCOPE-INTO-A-MORE-MODERN-MICROSCOPE-2837EF78991D#XIUAUXIVOQ STAGE PLATE AND SPECIMEN CLIP: MY MICROSCOPE ORIGINALLY DID NOT COME WITH A SPECIMEN CLIP THAT FIT NICELY, SO I HAD TO STRUGGLE WITH THE ONE I ALREADY HAD. MY CURRENT CLIP DID NOT WORK WELL BECAUSE THE STAGE PLATE WAS TOO HIGH AND THE SCREW CONNECTION POINTS DIDN'T MATCH THE HOLES IN THE STAGE. THIS RESULTED IN SOME WEIRD PROBLEMS, SUCH AS SLIDES NOT LAYING FLAT ON THE STAGE OR OBJECTIVES HITTING THE PLATE IF THEY WERE NOT CENTERED RIGHT. TO SOLVE THESE ISSUES, I DECIDED TO REDesign THE STAGE PLATE SO IT WOULD BE EXACTLY AS HIGH AS THE TOP OF THE STAGE. IT SHOULD ALSO HOLD GLASS SLIDES WITHOUT AN EXTRA SPECIMEN CLIP AND PROVIDE MORE CLEARANCE FOR OBJECTIVES IN THE REVOLVER. ADDITIONALLY, IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL IF THE PLATE WITH THE SPECIMEN COULD TURN 360 DEGREES. THAT'S HOW I CAME UP WITH THIS NEW STAGE PLATE DESIGN. IN MY NEXT UPDATE, I PLAN TO MAKE THE EXTRUDED LOWER PART OF THE GLASS SLIDE FIT PERFECTLY SO IT DOESN'T MOVE DURING SCANNING.
