The Nikon R1C1 macro flash kits are not compatible with the Nikon 70-180 Micro lens, as clearly stated in the manual. This is because the flash mounting ring attaches to the front of the lens and on the 70-180 it moves during focusing, causing incompatibility issues. I personally own both the R1C1 and the 70-180 lens, but unfortunately they cannot be used together.
