This is a lens cover hood combo designed by combining Sketchpunk's Mechanical Iris with PrototypeProfessor's Nikon 18-55 AF Lens Hood. For assembly instructions on the iris, visit Sketchpunk's page at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:773759 and like and follow his page for updates. PrototypeProfessor's Nikon 18-55 AF Lens Hood is also worth checking out, as it explains the functionality of the lens hood in a video available on PrototypeProfessor's page at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1600188. This design may not address some fish-eye effects, but it will fit and work well. This cover and hood combo was created to fit the Nikon DX AF-S NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED lens and the Nikon DX AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lenses, as shown in the picture above. Two small screw holes are located on the side of the base to provide added security if needed. This design has not been tested with additional filters or lens effects attached to the camera; anyone who tries it is encouraged to share their results and provide pictures so that any necessary adjustments can be made. The iris doesn't completely close a small hole, but the leaves should provide enough support to handle minor bumps and light pokes. This design was created for fun and does not offer an airtight seal from dust or water; it is simply a functional showpiece. If anyone has questions or needs help with printing, please send a message, and I will do my best to assist you and address any issues that may arise. 09/14/2016 - A design error in the base file was corrected. The new base file has been rotated so it sits square with the camera, and the side holes have been filled to create a more uniform look and provide extra protection. The spacer file has also been modified to offer more protection and easier assembly. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer Model: Simple White Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 25% Shell Thickness: 0.8mm Print Speed: 60mm/s Notes: The x11 pins and x11 leaves need to be printed at a layer height of 0.1mm with 10% infill. A print speed of 50mm/s is recommended. It's best to print all the x11 pins in one go and all the x11 leaves in one go; if this isn't possible, print at least two at a time. Post-Printing: A small amount of cleaning up was needed for the base and top with guard prints. This was done using gloves, safety glasses, and an Exacto Knife. Please be careful when doing this. On the base, you may need to clean up or cut small pieces of plastic underneath the inner lip to ensure that the cover attaches properly to the camera. On the top with guard, you will need to cut some more on the inner diameter in the hood near the build plate (you can use your fingers). There is also a small included support ring that should be removed. Once the leaves and pins have been super glued together and the base of the pin and the flat of the leaf are flush, level, and dry, you should insert the pin you glued in into the middle rings holes when assembling.
