Nike of Samothraki on Ship, w/o Supports
prusaprinters

The original sculpture and her warship pedestal were found in the ancient Sanctuary of the Great Gods, on the island of Samothraki (also spelled Samothrace). They represent Nike, goddess of victory, announcing from the bow of a naval ship that the battle has been won. Although enough of the right hand has also been found to tell us that she's posed for that victory shout, the head and arms remain missing.

Now you can display this victory monument in your own living room! My statue and optional warship pedestal are based on models by Jessie Myat and Jerry Fisher of the monument as it looks after the 2014 resoration. I adapted them for the following purposes:

To allow the base and ship to be printed with a material representing Rhodian marble, separate from the statue material which represents a lighter Parian marble

To make the cloth by the right leg printable with larger nozzles

To remove a prominent error in the hull shape of Fisher's model

To add some small gaps between stone blocks

To eliminate all need for supports

To optimize for a 180x180x180 build volume

Total height is 352 mm, which I estimate is 1:12 scale.* Just one of each part is needed, except the pegs. The statue needs seven, the ship six.

* The exact size of the original has proven hard for me to determine, due to conflicting and ambiguous reports.

Suggested Print Setup:

Materials:

Priline™ white polycarbonate (representing Parian marble)

PLA, painted with varying shades of gray primer (representing Rhodian marble)

Nozzle size: 0.4 to 0.8 mm

Supports: None

License Addendum

Note the restriction on commercial use. This restriction only applies to the ship. It's not something that I care to regulate, but Mr Fisher does.
