Nike Hercules Missile 140th Scale With Launcher/Display StandThe Nike Hercules ground-to-air missile was deployed in many parts of the world including the continental United States throughout the cold war. It was phased out when the Patriot missile was put into service. Changing threat levels and longer range missiles made stateside deployment obsolete. It was capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. This model is made mostly of filled solid components. It can be easily scaled up. You get to choose the wall thickness by selecting zero infill and choosing the number of perimeters. At the default scale, the complete model is 19.5 inches or 49 cm tall. At that size, printing with one .5mm perimeter results in a very lightweight model. Two perimeters makes a more sturdy model. The Hercules upper stage has designed-in supports for the upper fins. Score them with a knife on both sides to remove them after printing. Paint as needed. For the launcher/display stand: You can decide at what angle you want the rail to be, from near-horizontal to vertical then, glue it to the frame. Then assemble the other parts and glue them into place. Paint as needed then glue the missile in placeOrient parts for printing as follows:Frame - As-isStrut - As-is, (partially upright), use some brim for adhesionStrut Arm - Lay flatRail - Lay flat on side, use some brim to prevent ends from warping upward. The main axle on the frame should have support. The horizontal portion of the strut should bridge fairly well. If you are not confident the bridging behavior of your material, you might want to use support there also.
