Niftymitter is an open-source FM transmitter based on the open-hardware design of Tetsuo Kogawa, featuring a compact, 1mm card body. The v0.22 version boasts various hacking options and its miniature size makes it ideal for small-scale radio broadcasts, building distributed PA systems, connecting personal audio players to car radios, or for general audio experimentation. This version addresses issues in v0.21, with refined net dimensions for better battery and PCB fit, improved transmission, and fixed component spacing and hole sizes on the PCB. The v0.21 iteration resolved numerous problems from v0.1, such as a smaller, pocket-friendly design, enhanced component layout, and a slimmer, more stable build. It also eliminated the need for cumbersome cable ties and offered easier accessibility without laser cutting facilities. The cardboard in v0.22 is more resilient than acrylic at joints. However, it still has some known issues, like the circuit box part needing restraint within the sleeve and improved PP3 power lead access to the battery tray. A separate, powered mic design is also required. Niftymitter's project home is on openthing.org/products/niftymitter. For PCB layout, use v0.22 [.svg] designed for copperplate etching or laser engraving methods found in related instructables. Electronic schematics are available on Tetsuo Kogawa's site, along with general support and guidance on assembling the electronics. The components list can also be found on his site, with detailed instructions on sourcing and assembly using his copperplate method. Housing layouts for v0.22 [.svg] are designed for laser cutting or hand-cutting 1mm cardboard or polypropylene, which can be assembled by folding and gluing with a quick-drying adhesive like UHU.
