Nicolas Poussin at the Louvre, Paris, France
myminifactory
Nicolas Poussin was a renowned painter of the classical French Baroque style, spending most of his working life in Rome despite being born in France. His artwork is distinguished by clarity, logic, and order, emphasizing line over color. Until the 20th century, he remained a primary source of inspiration for artists such as Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, and Paul Cézanne, who were classically oriented. Poussin worked in Rome with a group of prominent collectors from around the world, except for a brief period when Cardinal Richelieu ordered him to return to France as the King's First Painter. Most of his works are history paintings featuring religious or mythological subjects often accompanied by extensive landscape elements.
