Nicolas Poussin at the Louvre, Paris, France
cults3d
Nicolas Poussin dominated classical French Baroque art with his precise, methodical approach and preference for stark lines over vivid hues. He spent most of his productive years in Rome, leaving an enduring legacy among artists who valued order and logic. Even into the 20th century, he remained a guiding influence for traditionalists like Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, and Paul Cézanne. Poussin catered to a circle of prominent collectors based in Rome and elsewhere, except for a brief period when Cardinal Richelieu summoned him back to France to serve as the King's top artist. Most of his body of work consists of detailed historical paintings with strong landscape elements, often depicting mythological or sacred subjects on a grand scale.
