NFC & Magstripe Reader
grabcad
The reader's enclosure top and bottom are made of the same extrusion profile, allowing them to click together. The design may appear complex from certain angles but appears simple from the side. An advantage of this new design or application that requires more or less space is that the same extrusion profile can be used with a corresponding appearance to previous designs, only with a different length. Additionally, the housing can easily be adapted for a version without a magstripe reader by replacing the lid with one without a slot on that side. The printed circuit board (PCB) dimensions are proposed as a single piece, with a battery holder added. The PCB is suitable for both flat and round batteries. SMD LEDs are placed on the PCB but can be seen through light pipes in the top casing. All electronic components can fit onto one PCB. The LED functions are as follows: from left to right, they indicate power on (blinking sleep and off), WiFi (blinking when receiving a signal and on when connected), battery status (blinking low battery and on when charging; off during charging indicates full battery), and access control (green for permit and red with a buzzer sound for deny). A read error is indicated by red with blinking yellow (yellow representing the combination of red and green LEDs). The stand is designed to be simple yet attractive, with an oval shape and curvature. It is made of translucent polycarbonate plastic in a color similar to the reader. The shape and holes are created for bending. The reader can stand independently on a table, with or without the stand, or with the holder mounted on a wall. In any position, it is possible to charge the reader via a USB connection, either connected to a PC/laptop or a cellphone adapter. All parts are 3D printable, and for an attractive appearance in a low-volume production, translucent polycarbonate plastic for the stand or vacuum casting resins could be used. Please forgive any errors in the English writing style, and feel free to ask if anything is unclear.
