Nexus 6p Charging Dock A sleek charging dock with a precise snug fit for the Nexus 6P and original OEM charging cable. The sturdy crossbar in the back prevents the cable from flipping the entire dock over. Those holes in the back are remnants of an abandoned attempt at incorporating a cable lock feature. The curved shape in the back minimizes volume, allowing for faster printing, and also makes it simple to pick up the entire dock and type with the phone still docked. Note: This dock is designed specifically for a snug fit with a naked phone. It will not accommodate any sort of case or screen cover. I started with a rough model of the 6P and original USB C cable. Next, I arranged these models and aligned them to fit one another. Then, using an isometric view, I drew a 2D spline with a pleasing shape for the dock that fit around both phone and cable. Since I wanted to minimize material usage, I created an alternate profile for the middle of the dock to reduce volume. To create the 3D shape, I copied these profiles and arranged them symmetrically in the appropriate position relative to the phone, and used the "loft" tool to smoothly fill in the 3D shape bounded by the 3D profiles. I then used Meshmixer to verify stability, ensuring the dock wouldn't tip over when the phone is pressed down into it. Finally, I subtracted the phone and USB cable models from the resulting shape, and scaled up the entire thing by 1% for a perfect fit.
