Nexus 6P Case and slide out Gamepad
thingiverse
So this is still strictly a work in progress, my first ever design. You may remember the Xperia Play phone, an Android device from 2011 with a slide-out gamepad allowing true console-quality gaming on the go with real controls. Unfortunately, Sony never updated this phone, and other companies have released gaming phones without true controls (Razer, Black Shark, etc.). The concept here is to integrate a sliding out gamepad behind a Nexus 6P that still allows for camera operation when not in use (fingerprint scanner gets in the way). The gamepad must support all modern standards (dual shoulder buttons, dual analogue sticks with select). I previously attempted building my own gamepad from scratch but couldn't find analogue sticks with built-in select buttons that weren't taller than a pre-built gamepad. In this case, I'm using an 8bit Duo N30 Pro gamepad, the slimmest one available. If anyone knows of anything more slimline, I'd be grateful. This design is still being developed as I don't have access to a 3D printer for prototyping, so I'll be making educated guesses until it's produced. The main issue I'm facing is the sliding mechanism. One simple idea I have is using a screw that goes through phone case slots and into the gamepad case, relying on friction to hold them together. It may not look elegant but could be effective. I'm not familiar with the name of this slider mechanism (used in phones that slide out and lock), and I couldn't find any designs suitable for 3D printing online.
