Nexus 4 Dock Sphere

Nexus 4 Dock Sphere

thingiverse

To bypass Google's delayed Nexus 4 dock release, a user crafted their own in Blender. Although lacking wireless charging capabilities, this DIY solution requires no waiting. Two dock versions are available; one for naked Nexus 4 and another for the device with an official bumper. The maker credits Charles Perez on GrabCad for his Nexus 4 model. The docks are large due to their spherical shape, which may not be compatible with a Thingomatic printer, but the "naked" dock might fit. Print at desired layer heights using a Rep1 with Sailfish. A compact cable is recommended, and users may need to trim excess rubber from the jack head for a snug fit. Melted ABS in acetone or Sugro can be used to secure the cable in place. Adding hobby weights inside the dock cavity ensures stability. An NFC sticker can make the dock "smarter," enabling Daydream mode activation when docked using apps like "NFC Task Launcher." Enjoy your DIY Nexus 4 dock!
