Nexpayantla, PO-02

The Nexpayantla archaeological site, classified as PO-02, sits at 4309 meters above sea level on the northern ridge of a natural crater pre-dating the current Popocatépetl. A thousand years old quadrangular pre-Hispanic structure is registered there, surrounded by remnants of jadeite, obsidian, slate and ceramics. In early March 2018, Dr. Arturo Montero and colleagues climbed as part of their work for the National Commission for Natural Protected Areas (CONANP). Lourdes Lopez, Ariana Jimenez and CONANP personnel were among those who participated.
