Newmar Hood Release Block
thingiverse
When I try to release the front compartment latch, I pull on the release handle, but when I go to open the compartment, the latch has re-engaged. My wife had to continuously pull on the release handle while I lifted the hood and placed it on its support rod. To enable me to open the front compartment without assistance, I created a block that will stay attached to the release mechanism with a lanyard. When I want to open the compartment, I'll pull the release handle, place the block over the shaft to hold it in the release position, and then go lift and prop the front compartment door. I used 550 cord to make this work. First, I melted the end of the 550 cord and pulled it through a napkin to create a pointed end. Then, I fed the pointed end of the 550 cord through the eyelet in the Hood Release Block. After threading the end through the eyelet, I remelted it and let it become flared and rounded so it wouldn't pass back through the eyelet. I tied the other end of the cord around the shaft of the Hood Release Cable to prevent it from getting lost. This way, it will always hang right where I need to use it. The fit is pretty tight along the hexagonal-shaped shaft, which is good because it will stay in place when I need it. For Version 2, I made the fit a little looser so it's easy on and off without friction. It still sits atop the hexagonal shaft very securely.
