I offered a surface nesting drain strainer that had some drawbacks, so I created this one to solve those issues. It may or may not fit your drain perfectly, and you might need to adjust the overall diameter using your 3D STL creation program. The basic problem is a common issue with commercial surface nesting drain strainers - water gets trapped between the underside of the strainer and the sink's surface, creating a perfect breeding ground for bacterial growth. My first strainer had this issue, but I improved it by designing the strainer to sit directly in the sink drain itself. The holes are designed to efficiently drain maximum flow from my faucet, which is about 1.5 gallons/minute (around 5.7 liters/min). You may notice that the middle hole is slightly larger to accommodate my finger for easy lifting. After using it for around 70 days, I've had no issues with smell or bacterial growth, and it has held up well even when exposed to boiling water from pasta draining through it. The "cup" shape of the strainer is designed to sit level with the surface of the sink's bottom, but this may vary depending on your sink design. If you need help making adjustments, just send me a private message with your drain specifications (depth and diameter in inches or mm), and I'll be happy to redesign it for you - free of charge. This drain strainer works great, is simple, and is very easy to keep clean and use. I eliminated the tiny holes and slots from my first design, which made cleaning a hassle.
