Archaeologists discovered this New York Militia uniform button during an extensive survey of Brook Farm in the 1990s. The artifacts unearthed from the site reveal a rich history spanning Native American settlements, an experimental utopian community, and Civil War era Camp Andrew. This button is dated to the latter period and bears evidence of intentional flattening, likely for use as a game piece. Although no battles took place in the Boston area during the Civil War, Union troops trained and mustered at camps like Camp Andrew before embarking on their southern campaigns, with many never returning home.
