New Water Droplet Kinetic Desk Toy
thingiverse
This is the newest updated version of my original [Water Droplet Kinetic Sculpture](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2542655). -This version has thicker, better modeled rings that make it both easier to print and more stable when spinning. -The updated crankshaft, inspired by [supinemonkey's remix](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2578599) uses a smooth transition as opposed to the original stepped transition between rings. This updated shaft allows for a MUCH easier print which requires no supports by having both the smooth transition and by being split into multiple pieces. -Along with the updated shaft comes an updated handle which is also inspired by supinemonkey [here](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2549756). -The updated frame uses two 608 bearings for a much smoother rotation. The frame also holds the crank higher up so when turning, your hand doesn't keep hitting the desk. Assembly is super easy. I tend to start with adding the crank to the body first so there's a little more room before the top and middle pieces go on. When attaching the crank to the bearings use 2 M3x10mm screws to attach the spacers and handle. Also on the handle side, be sure to attach the handle on the outside of the spacer so there is room for the handle to spin without binding. To attach the knob to the handle just use one more M3x10mm screw and tighten it just tight enough so the knob can still spin freely. Depending on your print settings you may experience stringing between the legs of the rings. If that happens, I've found that using a heat gun on the strings will tend to wick them away fairly easily.
