The New Horizons spacecraft launched in 2006 embarked on a remarkable journey that culminated in a thrilling flyby past the icy dwarf planet of Pluto and its moons in July 2015. After traversing over 3 billion miles in 10 years, having already braved the turbulent storms and orbited the majestic moons of Jupiter, New Horizons is now headed for another groundbreaking encounter, a small Kuiper Belt object (KBO) known as 2014 MU69, where it will conduct an in-depth study of an ancient building block of small planets like Pluto on New Year's Day in 2019.
