New CR-10s Filament Sensor Housing Assembly
thingiverse
I own several Creality CR-10s 3D printers myself, and I was not pleased with the design of the stock filament runout sensor. The stock sensor constantly pushed against the X bar bracket when retracted, sometimes getting stuck holding onto extruding filament and causing print failures. Therefore, I designed a new sensor housing from scratch to utilize the same internal sensor switch PCB and M3 screws. My design firmly secures the X bar bracket without obstructing the lead screw or extruder assembly or stepper motor. I created two versions of this design. Both versions include a holder that keeps the hot end cable out of the way of the Y bed. One version features a longer bottom mount with a bolt hole for the X bar carriage, while the other (short) version is quicker to print without this longer bottom mount. Both designs are intended to mount snugly to the X bar extruder bracket. I also designed the sensor assembly to allow filament to feed in and retract with minimal resistance by tapering the guide holes to prevent sharp edges for the filament to catch on. Please note that this design can be challenging to print on a stock CR-10 or CR-10s without proper calibration and assembly. I recommend printing at high resolution, such as 60 microns for PLA, for tolerance and cleanliness reasons. However, resolutions between 200 and 250 microns should also work, depending on your printer's calibration. Licensing info: This is a USA registered copyright and international copyright work.
