NEW Covid-19 Face Shield Design (Prints ~4X Faster, No Elastic Required, Printable Straps!)

In this video I'm sharing with you my latest 3D printed Covid-19 face shield design that offers great protection, comfort, and ease of use after many iterations combining the best features of popular face shields. No elastic is required and you can 3D print the straps which have a big advantage over traditional elastic as they are one less part to source and easier to clean than fabric. Nurses and doctors are having to reuse their PPE and cleaning foam/fabric is not easy because it is porous and can harbor bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants. The new face shield features 3D printed straps that can be printed in PLA or TPU, both files are provided below with TPU being preferred for its toughness and flexibility but PLA works just fine. In addition to the easy to use and clean straps, the face shield offers more protection from overhead thanks to a top cover. The print time should be ~4x faster than my previous design as this is very slim. I have also included a drill guide for the clear plastic front shield which recommends using 0.5mm thick material such as PETG for your face shield. The drill guide has two hole settings to adjust the clearance to your face and many popular face shields in circulation have too much clearance under the chin. My offset hole design fixes this issue and despite the holes being offset, the pattern still fits the PRUSA RC2 masks so you can use this hole pattern to bring those shields closer to the wearer's face. This is also compatible with my previous design if you still really like that one. I made the lower chin piece from the PRUSA design more robust by making it thicker and stronger for continual use as I found the original model was thin and not very strong. If you have any questions about print settings, please see the print details in the Thingiverse link or ask me in the comments section. Design files are available below with print directions that include using PLA+, a layer height of 0.3mm, and no support material required. Assembly is easy just attach the PETG face sheet to the clear plastic shield using the holes provided and make sure it's cut to the correct size which should be an A4 piece of printed paper. If you plan on producing these face shields for others, please practice good cleanliness and look up guidelines online for what is required. Do not contaminate the shields and then hand them out to front line workers! If you guys have any suggestions for further improvement please let me know! Original design and good info from Prusa can be found at prusa3d.com/covid19, another model I drew some inspiration from but remodeled completely is thingiverse.com/thing:4233193/files, my previous design is youtu.be/aTgLYxFm6Xw, and I would like to thank CADMicrosolutions for providing me with the clear front shields for my efforts. Please check them out at cadmicro.com. If you would like to help with my Covid-19 PPE effort, please consider donating below which will go towards purchasing filament to continue printing PPE, and if there is enough support I can purchase a second printer for this purpose!
